The Rules of the Star Trek: Phoenix RPG are relatively lax and simple to adhere to. Please remember when signing up for the RPG, you are making a commitment. In other words, don't start unless you plan on sticking with it. The RPG is played by Forum, and each player will make posts, that is, make an addition to the story based on their character, and what has happened already in previous posts. Also, when posting, it is a good idea to check the previous posts, so you have a good frame of reference. Below is an example of a post. The words and phrases in RED ITALICS were added for the sole purpose of helping to teach you the ropes, and are no way part of the original, functional post.[/b][/color]

OFF: Sorry I haven't posted in such a long time, I've just been so busy. with pretty much everything! Oh, and welcome aboard T'Ann!
The word OFF: is used to indicate text that is not part of the ongoing story. In other words, something you want to say to the crew, or a specific crew member, that doesn't fit in the story.
ON:
Likewise, ON: indicates the start of the main story again. If there is no OFF:, the post is understood to be ON:.
***Shuttlebay 2***
Shuttlebay 2 is the setting for this post. Setting is indicated between "*** and ***". You may mark a change in setting to another part of the ship, to a planet, etc...by using the same marks. You also may want to including timing such as: ***Meanwhile on the bridge***
Coy blasts through the Shuttlebay doors with the runabout's phasers, and since the bay was still pressurized, the runabout, the Vortex, Blur, Hawgood, and a number of shuttlecraft and other objects flew out into open space. . .
Notice that even though Hawgood is writing this post, and it focuses on himself and rightly so, it is still written in the third person point of view. It helps to keep things easy to follow, and is the standard format throughout the fleet.
Blur & Hawgood:*COOOOOOOOOOOOOOYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dialog by characters is indicated by their last name, followed by a colon ":". Also, if it is through a COMM system, as it is in this post ( Blur and Hawgood are in environmental suits ), text is begun with an "*". And, if you are wondering, the COMMbadge tap is indicated as "+TAPP+". Also, emotions and attitudes, and stage directions, can be indicated in parenthesis, like ( To Coy ) or ( Excitedly ).
Coy:*heh heh heh, sorry about that guys. Here you go.
Coy tapped a few buttons and the two were beamed onto the Vortex.
Blur:*You are going to pay for that.
Hawgood just mumbles under his breath while they startup the Vortex's systems.
Hawgood left this post open ended, to give other people a chance to post. Also, he didn't make it too hard to follow up on by digging the crew into an inescapable hole. All in all, this is a good post.
OFF:
That's all there is to it. Below is the same post, but without these marks, so you may get the feel of a regular post. However, the following is only a partial example of a regular post. I expect posts to be much longer. For an example of a full post, SEE: Rise of the Phoenix in the Season 1 category.

And below are some guidelines for posting.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When you post things, try and keep it within the guidelines established by the Star Trek franchise. In other words, whatever you post "should" be able to happen in the Star Trek universe, but it doesn't have had to have happened in any book, movie, or TV episode. And remember, for every bizarre occurrence, there usually is some explanation, although not immediately apparent. This is done in no way to discourage originality, instead, it keeps us all playing in the same universe.
Try and post at least once a week, unless you have good reason ( family troubles, no computer access, personal reasons, vacation, etc...). If you have not posted for three consecutive weeks, you will be contacted by the Commanding Officer of your ship, at which time you will be asked whether you wish to continue with the RPG. No response within a week after the mailing of that letter is considered a "No.", and you will be subsequently dropped from the mailing list. Should you change your mind, you can reapply via security. As for a maximum limit for posting, twice a day should be the absolute maximum. Anymore would not give other players a chance to post.
Try and keep bad spelling, typos, and bad grammar to a minimum. We understand that not many people out there are English majors, and allow for mistakes, but remember, other people have to read this too. So, please check your post before submitting.
And of course, keep with the story. While in character building, or so-called "off-time", you have relatively free reign of whatever you want to do, as it is not an organized mission, but more like the personal life of your character aboard ship and / or on leave. However, during organized missions, keeping with the story is very important to the continuation and success of the RPG.
When you post, DON'T:
- Exclude other characters. - Its okay for you to post about your character, in fact it is encouraged. Posts about your character alone are acceptable too. But remember, you aren't the only one on the ship. Also, when writing material for other characters, try and keep it in character for them. If you're not sure, check out their biography, or better yet, ask them!
- Use foul language, graphic violence, and explicit sexual contact. - d**n is acceptable ( and variants ) , but other words should be done with *s. "A**" for example. "Sh**" and "Fu**" are NEVER acceptable. Violence is acceptable, as long as it would be acceptable in a Star Trek episode, but DON'T overdo it. And sexual references and subplots are okay as long as it could happen on TV that way, in a Star Trek episode.
- Kill other characters. EVER. Only with their permission. Non-Player Characters may be killed as long as they are not essential to the ship. To kill a player character, you need their permission as well as the Captain's.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, there you have it. These are the rules and guidelines of the Star Trek: Phoenix RPG. Further questions can be e-mailed directly to Five.of.Seven.TAU01@juno.com.
